A NEW service that will allow more than 15 million Sky viewers to compare loans and mortgages on their TV screens is to be launched by Sky Active.

BSkyB has signed up Money Supermarket to supply part of the financial comparison service that will be launched later this year.

It will provide comparisons across more than 400 loans and 4,000 mortgages.

The service will be listed in the Sky Active Money category and purchases of personal loans will be carried out over the telephone.

Mortgage leads will be passed to a regional mortgage broker who will contact the viewer direct.

The service will carry banner advertising.

"For the first time, viewers will be able to make financial product comparisons on Sky Active through one service," said Sky Interactive commercial director Tobin Ireland.

"The Money Supermarket service will add real consumer value to our existing line-up of financial services.

"It is a great example of how Sky Interactive's browser-based platform enables established on-line services to be easily adapted to work on digital television."

At Money Supermarket, chief executive Simon Nixon said he welcomed the agreement and the fact it would open up the service to millions of potential new users.
